Competing in the ring of ultimate portrait primes, Sigma’s latest Art lens is up against pro-grade favourites, including the Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM, Nikon AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED and Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 G Master. The Sigma overshadows them all, if only in physical size and weight: it’s heavier than most 70-200mm f/2.8 telephoto zooms. The 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM Art is a relatively wide-range standard zoom for full frame SLRs, and part of Sigma's line of high quality 'Art' lenses. It offers a useful wideangle to moderate telephoto zoom range, and includes a Hypersonic Motor for fast, silent focus. Optical Stabilisation is also available to combat camera shake.
The Canon 24-105mm f/4L has great optics and works extremely well. My biggest whine is that the zoom ring takes a lot of effort and that the wide end of the zoom range is cramped, making it difficult to set wide focal lengths precisely.
